Peaceful Little Baby

The First Wednesday in March

Today we went to visit Cayleigh Jean a little earlier than we normally do. Since we only got the chance to see her once yesterday we were eager to go see our sweet girl as soon as possible. Nic dropped off the kids at school and then came back to pick me & Miss Juliette up to head to the hospital.

We arrive and Nic drops me off at the front doors. I get my badge, head up to floor 2, walk to the NICU security camera doors, get in, sign in, wash up and head to Cayleigh. Room 12. I look in the doors and see my sweet angel laying in her crib.

When I come inside I wash my hands and drop off a zip lock bag full of candy bars and treats for the nurses. Cindy greets us and thanks me for the candy. She's going to take it to the break room for all of the other nurses. I walk to Cayleigh's crib and begin praying over her using the scriptures I posted late yesterday. I say the verse and then I read the confession using "her" and "she" referring to my Cayleigh. I feel God's presence and His touch as I pray. She is so peaceful and sweet, sleeping soundly like a baby should. She is laying on her right side. Her left arm is up on her hip and when I open the side of the crib to put my right hand on her she begins moving her arm. She moves her hand to sit on top of mine, then she moves the left hand that her IV is currently in and touches my hand with that one too. My heart nearly leaps out of my chest. She moves her left arm multiple times while I'm resting my hand on her. She has so much mobility I'm thrilled to pieces!

Her stats have been good, they've increased her feeding to 30 ML and they didn't take the CPT blood draw today. Cindy explained to me that is because they don't want to take blood from a tiny baby unless they need to. They'll probably take it tomorrow morning. I'm pretty excited about that.

While it's still 'my turn' to spend with Cayleigh I decide to take a couple of photos and without further ado - several pictures of a sleeping, sweet girl.

It's 5:30 now and Nic & I will be heading up to see her in a couple of hours. We are truly blessed this evening folks. Pastor Kim from our church has provided our family with dinner tonight so it's one stress I don't need to worry about - better yet, it's PIZZA! Jakey is at T-Ball with Nic right now and they'll be back in just under an hour. Meanwhile, the pizza sits and waits for those hungry boys to return. The girls are busy in the front room watching Bolt 'picnic' style. That translates to mean they are sitting on a blanket so that the pizza doesn't get on my carpet. :) We have truly felt such love and outreach from our church family, family, friends and everyone who knows of sweet Cayleigh Jean.

Thank you all for loving her as we do. I just called and found out that she is doing well. No residuals, no apnea, no reflux, great stats. Cindy told me that she just go done working with the Speech Therapist, Jennifer, who said that she is making progress. She isn't sucking just yet, but is definitely feeling around with her tongue and whatnot. It's progress and we'll take it *PRAISES* We look forward to her swallowing, to her sucking, to the great strides we are confident our Lord will enable her to make.

Stay tuned for her updates this evening.
